Resident Evil Requiem Continues to Thrive with New Content Updates

Capcom’s Resident Evil Requiem, released in February 2026, is receiving a boost of new content following impressive sales figures exceeding five million copies. The game, the ninth main installment in the Resident Evil series, will receive a story expansion and a new minigame, alongside the previously announced photo mode.

Record Sales Drive New Content

Director Koshi Nakanishi announced the upcoming content in a video posted on Xitter, thanking fans for the game’s success . The expansion is designed to “delve deeper into the world of Requiem,” though specific details remain undisclosed. The minigame, slated for release around May, is also shrouded in mystery, with Nakanishi playfully teasing potential concepts like a Leon Kennedy romance spin-off, cat DLC, or BBQ DLC .

Exploring Themes of the Past

Resident Evil Requiem features both returning protagonist Leon S. Kennedy and new playable character Grace Ashcroft, an FBI analyst . The game’s narrative grapples with the legacy of past Resident Evil titles, particularly the events of Raccoon City. A condition known as Raccoon City Syndrome, affecting survivors of the original T-Virus outbreak, plays a central role in the plot, manifesting as a slowly progressing necrosis impacting characters like Leon and Sherry . Leon’s primary motivation is to discover a way to remove this lingering trauma from his body.

Gameplay and Development

Gameplay in Resident Evil Requiem alternates between Grace and Leon, offering distinct experiences. Grace’s sections emphasize survival horror elements, reminiscent of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village, while Leon’s gameplay leans towards the action-oriented style of Resident Evil 4 . Players can choose to experience both characters’ stories from either a first-person or third-person perspective. Developed using the RE Engine, Resident Evil Requiem was directed by Koshi Nakanishi, who also directed Resident Evil 7 .

Platforms

Resident Evil Requiem is available on Windows, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 .
