Rileigh Romberger Named Washington County Girls Wrestler of the Year

Smithsburg junior Rileigh Romberger has been named the 2025-26 Herald-Mail Girls Wrestler of the Year, capping off a dominant season for the Leopards. The announcement comes as the Washington County high school girls wrestling season concludes, with several other athletes earning All-Star recognition.

Romberger’s Championship Run

Romberger, boasting a 21-1 record, secured county and 2A-1A West championships at 120 pounds. Her impressive performance culminated in a second-place finish at the state tournament.

2025-26 Washington County Girls Wrestling All-Stars

Several other athletes distinguished themselves throughout the season, earning All-Star honors:

  • Reggan Chapin, North Hagerstown (Junior): Chapin (18-8) was the county champion at 135 pounds.
  • Quinn Chomor, North Hagerstown (Sophomore): Chomor (17-13) finished as the county runner-up at 140 pounds and placed fourth in the 4A-3A West region.
  • Bella Cox, Smithsburg (Senior): Cox (19-7) won the county championship at 130 pounds and took third place in the 2A-1A West region.
  • Kendall Crutchfield, Smithsburg (Freshman): Crutchfield (14-6) was the county champion at 110 pounds and placed fourth in the 2A-1A West region.
  • Laicey Durham, Williamsport (Sophomore): Durham (18-24) claimed both the county and 2A-1A West championships at 100 pounds, achieving a 3-2 record at the state tournament.
  • Ariyanah Freeman, South Hagerstown (Sophomore): Freeman (5-4) was crowned county champion at 140 pounds.
  • Leah Marrero-Gonzalez, North Hagerstown (Freshman): Marrero-Gonzalez secured the county championship at 155 pounds.
  • McKenna Greene, Boonsboro (Freshman): Greene (14-11) won the county championship at 105 pounds and finished fourth in the 2A-1A West region.
  • Lucy Lawson, Boonsboro (Freshman): Lawson maintained a record of 17-10 at 130 pounds.
  • Gia Lotsikas, Saint James (Sophomore): Lotsikas (13-8) was named MVP of the Saints girls wrestling team.
  • Emmaleigh Mentzer, Smithsburg (Junior): Mentzer (14-6) was the county champion at 115 pounds and finished second in the 2A-1A West region.
  • Lilliannah Mentzer, Smithsburg (Freshman): Mentzer (7-11) was the county runner-up at 190 pounds and placed fourth in the 2A-1A West region.
  • Sarah Mohler, Boonsboro (Sophomore): Mohler (24-3) won the 2A-1A West title at 145 pounds and placed third in the state tournament; she was a contender for Wrestler of the Year.
  • Samantha Nieman, Smithsburg (Senior): Nieman (20-7) won the county title at 170 pounds, finished third in 2A-1A West, and went 4-2 at states.
  • Emma Paul, Williamsport (Senior): Paul (21-4) was the county champion at 125 pounds, finished third in 2A-1A West, and went 2-2 at states.
  • Gabi Paul, Williamsport (Freshman): Paul (14-8) was the county runner-up at 120 pounds.
  • Ella Rechtorovic, Williamsport (Senior): Rechtorovic (14-6) won the county title at 190 pounds and finished second in 2A-1A West.
  • Samantha Rowe, Smithsburg: Rowe was the county champion at 145 pounds.
  • Kaiya Smith, North Hagerstown (Freshman): Smith (5-2) was the county champion at 235 pounds.
