Robertson Stephens Wealth Management Crosses Ten Billion Dollars After Acquiring Alpha Investment Consulting Group

Robertson Stephens Wealth Management crossed the $10 billion assets under management threshold on Tuesday after combining with Milwaukee-based Alpha Investment Consulting Group, InvestmentNews reported. The transaction extends the San Francisco-based registered investment adviser’s capabilities into institutional consulting, bringing outsourced chief investment officer services for endowments, foundations, and nonprofits directly onto its platform.

The deal establishes Robertson Stephens’ first location in Wisconsin and brings its national footprint to 28 advisory teams across 26 offices. Alpha Investment Consulting Group brought $714 million in assets under management to the combination, according to a Form ADV cited by Wealth Management.

Institutional Consulting Expansion Under Raj Bhattacharyya

Raj Bhattacharyya, chief executive officer of Robertson Stephens in San Francisco, said the acquisition targets a client base that has historically sat outside the traditional RIA model. Many high-net-worth clients serve on nonprofit boards and investment committee structures, creating a natural overlap between private wealth and institutional needs.

As Robertson Stephens continues to evolve, we are intentionally investing in capabilities that serve clients across a broader spectrum of wealth and institutional needs, Bhattacharyya said, according to the company’s announcement. Many of our high-net-worth clients serve on boards and investment committees, and adding Bob’s team gives us the expertise to serve these organizations directly.

Bhattacharyya noted that covering nonprofits, foundations, and endowments creates cross-selling opportunities across the firm’s client bases. The integration combines wealth planning, investment management, family office services, retirement plan consulting, alternatives, and institutional consulting under a single independent fiduciary model.

Bob Bukowski Establishes the Milwaukee Office

Industry veteran Bob Bukowski, who founded Alpha Investment Consulting Group in 1989, joins Robertson Stephens as managing director and principal to lead the new Milwaukee office. He is joined by Patrick Pierce, Tony Jones, Dan Strasser, Julia Ramer, and Bailey Jordan.

The team brings decades of experience advising foundations, endowments, religious organizations, nonprofit institutions, and corporations. Their practice focuses on aligning investment strategies with organizational missions under a fiduciary standard of care.

Joining Robertson Stephens represents an exciting opportunity to build upon the relationships and expertise our team has developed over many years and add to the resources available to our clients, Bukowski said in the official release. We found a shared commitment to independent advice, fiduciary excellence and client service that made Robertson Stephens a natural fit.

Independent Advisory Consolidation Trends

The acquisition arrives as independent advisory firms nationwide expand into specialist client segments. High-net-worth individuals involved with nonprofit boards represent valuable relationships that extend beyond simple referrals into direct institutional clients.

Robertson Stephens operates as a partnership where advisor principals and senior executives own equity, backed by private equity firm Long Arc Capital.

Executive Leadership Changes at Robertson Stephens

The transaction coincides with a transition in the firm’s executive suite. Vikram Chugh stepped down after eight and a half years as chief operating officer of Robertson Stephens to assume the role of chief executive officer at CircleBlack, a firm also backed by Long Arc Capital, according to Wealth Management.
