Rodri Draws Parallels to 2009-2020 UEFA Case
Addressing the ongoing proceedings, Rodri drew a direct comparison to the club’s previous legal battle with European football’s governing body. In 2020, UEFA handed Manchester City a two-year ban from European club competitions for alleged breaches of Financial Fair Play rules. However, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) overturned that ruling entirely five months later, clearing the club of the most serious accusations and reducing a financial penalty.
“We already lived through a similar situation in 2020. The investigation process was the same, even if the specific accusations changed,” Rodri said in comments reported by The Athletic. “The club communicates with us calmly, ensuring everyone that no rules were broken and that the institution is innocent.”
