As of March 23, 2026, two people are reported to be in serious condition, and approximately 70 people have been evacuated from the area. A 24-year-old man was rescued from the rubble and transported to a hospital for evaluation. An elderly couple, Michele De Bari, 84, and Chiara De Bari, 86, sustained burns covering at least 20 percent of their bodies and are receiving treatment at Sant’Eugenio Hospital, though their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the explosion, with a gas leak being considered as a primary hypothesis. Initial reports suggest the explosion may have been caused by the detonation of propane gas cylinders that were buried in a back garden. Firefighters are working to determine the exact cause.
