RuneScape Subscription Prices Increase Following Microtransaction Removal

Just months after celebrating the removal of microtransactions, RuneScape players are facing a price increase for monthly and annual subscriptions. The changes, implemented on March 10, 2026, reflect a shift in Jagex’s monetization strategy following community feedback.

The Complete of Treasure Hunter and a New Pricing Structure

In November 2025, Jagex announced that Treasure Hunter microtransactions would be permanently removed from RuneScape, responding to a community vote exceeding 120,000 participants Jagex News. Treasure Hunter allowed players to purchase keys for a chance to win in-game items like XP boosts and gold. Alongside the removal of Treasure Hunter on January 19, 2026, 225 Direct XP and skilling-related items were also removed from sale Jagex News.

However, the removal of this revenue stream has led to adjustments in subscription costs. Effective April 9, 2026, the monthly membership price has increased from $13.99 to $14.99. The annual membership has seen a more substantial increase, rising from $99.48 to $131.88 per year GamesRadar+, PC Gamer.

Grandfathered Rates and Bonds

Players with existing monthly subscriptions at a “grandfathered” rate – those established before September 27, 2024 – will maintain their current pricing. However, players who switched to the annual tier after that date will not be able to revert to the legacy pricing PC Gamer. Six-month memberships are no longer available for purchase, though existing subscriptions will continue to roll over until canceled GamesRadar+.

Bonds, tradable in-game items redeemable for membership access, have also grow more expensive in line with these changes GamesRadar+.

Integrity Roadmap and Future Development

Jagex has stated that the increased revenue will be invested in a year-long “Integrity Roadmap,” addressing longstanding issues within the game, including improvements to the user interface, combat, daily activities, early and mid-game experiences, and visual identity Jagex News. This roadmap aims to prioritize integrity in all future design decisions.

This price increase follows a previous hike in September 2024, after Jagex was acquired by private equity firms PC Gamer.
