Pasay Ministerial Meeting Sets New Economic Agenda
Russia and member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations have agreed to expand trade and investment ties following a ministerial meeting held in Pasay, Philippines.
Charting a Decade of Trade Expansion
Bilateral trade between Russia and ASEAN countries reached $17.8 billion last year, according to data cited by Prensa Latina. To accelerate this economic momentum, officials finalized the 2026–2035 cooperation programme.
The long-term framework targets several critical sectors, including digital technologies, artificial intelligence, science, transport, agriculture, energy, mineral extraction, climate action, tourism, and creative industries.
Targeting Smart Cities and Creative Sectors
The strategic agenda places special emphasis on technological collaboration. Both sides highlighted joint initiatives focused on the development of smart cities and animation production. To solidify commercial pathways, business ties will be directly coordinated through established Russia–ASEAN business councils.
Aligning Standards Across Regional Blocs
Alongside the ASEAN-specific framework, economic ministers discussed broader integration efforts involving regional bodies. Delegations reviewed ongoing cooperation between Russia and the Eurasian Economic Commission for the 2026–2030 period, aiming to align trade regulations and investment standards across participating jurisdictions.

Beyond commercial trade, the expanded agenda incorporates targeted projects for education and environmental protection.
