Russian Wheat Exports to Africa Surge, Cameroon Joins Growing List of Importers
St. Petersburg, Russia – A significant milestone has been reached in Russian agricultural trade with the first-ever shipment of wheat to cameroon dispatched from the port of Vysotsk. the 47.7 thousand-ton cargo underwent rigorous quality and safety inspections by specialists from the St. Petersburg branch of the Federal Center for Assessment of Safety and Quality of Products of the Agro-industrial Complex (TsOK APK), ensuring full compliance with Cameroonian import standards.
Laboratory analyses confirmed the wheat’s adherence to all requirements stipulated by the Cameroonian authorities. Thorough documentation, including test protocols, phytosanitary reports, and quarantine disinfection records, accompanied the shipment.
This delivery marks Cameroon as the fourteenth African nation receiving Russian grain, inspected from ports within the Leningrad region, over the past two years. Anita Milejina, director of the St. Petersburg branch of TsOK APK, emphasized this growing trend, stating the new trade route signifies increasing demand for Russian wheat across the continent.
As the start of 2026, TsOK APK’s St. Petersburg branch has overseen the inspection of nearly 200 thousand tons of grain and grain-derived products for export, with wheat accounting for 188 thousand tons. Beyond Cameroon, recent shipments have also been dispatched to Congo, Morocco, Angola, and Nigeria. This follows a January shipment to Kenya, also originating from the port of vysotsk and inspected by the same specialists.
