Russian Citizen Sentenced to 12 Years in Kyiv for Robbery of Soldier

Kyiv, Ukraine – A Russian citizen has been sentenced to 12 years in prison by a court in Kyiv for robbing a Ukrainian serviceman involved in defending the capital against drone attacks. The incident occurred on the Kharkiv highway in March 2023.

Details of the Crime

According to the Kyiv city prosecutor’s office, the 39-year-old Russian man, along with an accomplice, targeted a 36-year-old soldier from a mobile fire group responsible for intercepting Shahed drones over Kyiv. The attackers assaulted the serviceman until he lost consciousness and stole his phone, watch, and wallet.

The prosecutor’s office stated that after the victim began to regain consciousness, the accused returned and continued to assault him, kicking him in the head.

Defendant’s Background and Verdict

The court heard that one of the accused was released from prison just two months prior to the attack, having already served over 20 years. The accomplice died due to drug use before a verdict could be reached.

The Darnitsky District Court of Kyiv found the Russian citizen guilty and sentenced him to 12 years imprisonment with confiscation of property. He remains in custody.
