Sabres Surge Continues with Eighth Straight Win, Dahlin Leads the Charge

Buffalo’s remarkable winning streak reached eight games on Tuesday night, as the Sabres defeated the San Jose Sharks 6-3 at KeyBank Center. The victory was fueled by a hat trick from Jack Quinn and a three-assist performance from captain Rasmus Dahlin, solidifying Buffalo’s position atop the Atlantic Division.

Quinn’s Breakout Performance

Jack Quinn ended a 12-game goal drought with a dominant performance, scoring three goals and adding an assist. This marked his first NHL hat trick and a four-point game, a significant milestone in his career. “I think after the [Olympic] break I was actually playing pretty good and our line was having a ton of chances,” Quinn said. “It’s just we weren’t producing a ton, or at least I wasn’t. It was nice to turn the corner tonight.”

Dahlin’s Continued Excellence

Rasmus Dahlin’s three assists brought him to sixth in scoring among defensemen, tied with Evan Bouchard, Zach Werenski, Cale Makar, Lane Hutson, and Quinn Hughes. Dahlin emphasized the team’s preparation and consistency. “We realize that every match is a new match and you have to be ready for the next one,” Dahlin said. “I think we’ve done a great job. I think that we function harder off the ice too and we make sure we’re ready every game.”

Sabres’ Historic Run and Division Lead

This eight-game winning streak is the second such run for the Sabres this season, a first in franchise history. They previously won 10 straight games from December 9 to December 31. The Sabres now lead the Atlantic Division by four points over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Coach Lindy Ruff highlighted the team’s consistent high level of play as the key to their success. “We have continuously played at a high level. It’s the only way you can win so many games,” Ruff stated. “Yes, we have won in different ways, which is good, but the recurring theme is that we have managed to maintain a high level continuously.”

Sharks Fall Short

Despite a goal from Macklin Celebrini – his fourth consecutive game with a goal – and contributions from Alexander Wennberg (one goal, one assist), the San Jose Sharks couldn’t overcome the Sabres’ offensive onslaught. Yaroslav Askarov made 20 saves for the Sharks, who are one point behind the Seattle Kraken for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference.
