Run Away with the Circus: A Latvian Show Exploring the Magic and History of Circus Life
Riga Circus is captivating audiences with “Run Away with the Circus,” a performance that delves into the enduring allure of circus life. The show, featuring six young Latvian artists – Elīna Konrade, Betija Krolle, Roberts Aubēns, Ketija Jurčenko, Andris Zeļonka, and Emīls Zenne – explores the history of the circus and what continues to draw people to its unique world.
A Journey Through Circus History and Personal Stories
“Run Away with the Circus” isn’t just about spectacular tricks and laughter; it’s a reflection on the values fostered within the circus community – trust, self-belief, and the power of belonging. The performance examines how the circus provides a space where individuals, even those who feel different, can find a larger story and a sense of community. Audiences are invited to experience both the colorful spectacle and the often-unseen dedication and courage required to bring a circus performance to life.
Creative Vision and Performance Details
Directed by Andris Zeļonka, with dramaturgy by Ketija Jurčenko and Andris Zeļonka, the show emphasizes the joy and adventure inherent in circus arts. Zeļonka notes, “Joy increases joy. We run, jump and climb. We bump and sometimes crash. In each of us lives a small spirit of adventure that wants to joyfully indulge in the unknown.”
The performance runs for 35 minutes and is recommended for ages 6–11. It premiered on October 13, 2026, at the Riga Circus Arena, located at Merķela iela 4, Riga.
