FC Red Bull Salzburg defeated Austria Wien 4-1 in the Austrian Bundesliga at the Red Bull Arena, climbing to second place in the league standings behind leaders SK Rapid Wien and LASK. Yorbe Vertessen scored once for the hosts in front of 10,831 spectators, while Austria Wien dropped to the bottom of the table following the heavy defeat.

Early Defensive Errors Set the Tone for Salzburg

According to match reports from the Austrian Bundesliga, the match shifted decisively in the 13th minute when Austria Wien defender Lee Kang Hee accidentally turned a cross from Yorbe Vertessen into his own net. The early breakthrough followed near misses at both ends of the pitch, as Austria’s Julian Hettwer hit the post in the 4th minute with an Oberschenkel shot, and Salzburg captain Nikolas Veratschnig struck the crossbar in the 10th minute.

Salzburg capitalized on the momentum shortly after the opening goal. Haris Tabakovic scored his first Bundesliga goal for Salzburg with a header in the 19th minute following a cross from Veratschnig. Bartosz Mazurek added a third in the 31st minute, curling a shot into the top right corner after receiving a pass from Abubakr Barry, establishing a 3-0 lead by halftime.

Austria Wien Fails to Complete a Second-Half Comeback

Austria Wien manager Stephan Helm made tactical changes at halftime, introducing Manfred Fischer and Florian Wustinger. The substitutions paid immediate dividends when Wustinger set up Fischer to score a low shot into the short corner in the 47th minute, cutting the deficit to 3-1.

Any hopes of a visiting comeback were quickly extinguished by Vertessen in the 55th minute. The Belgian forward eluded two defenders and headed in his goal of the match to restore a three-goal advantage at 4-1. Substitute Aboubacar Camara missed further opportunities to extend the lead in the 75th and 83rd minutes.

Upcoming Bundesliga Fixtures

Both clubs return to action on Wednesday for rescheduled league fixtures. According to the league schedule, Austria Wien hosts WSG Tirol at 18:30 aiming to climb out of last place, while Salzburg hosts table-leaders SK Rapid Wien at 20:30.
