Почти 2 тысячи university applicants in Georgia who missed out on initial placements due to high competition and program selection errors will receive a second chance at enrollment. According to the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze initiated a special secondary enrollment process for 1,795 candidates who successfully cleared the minimum threshold on the Unified National Exams.
The Ministry of Education and Science announced that the upcoming registration window applies to remaining vacant spots across state and private higher education institutions, as well as professional educational centers. Education Minister Givi Mikandze stated that the exception is a one-time measure designed to support candidates who missed initial admission during the primary placement cycle.
“By the initiative of Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze, 1,795 applicants who overcame the established minimum competence threshold on the Unified National Exams will be provided the opportunity of so-called secondary enrollment,” Mikandze said, according to official statements. Candidates who cleared the national exam threshold will be permitted to register for matching academic programs during the upcoming intake.
Examination Statistics and State Funding
A total of 39,689 applicants registered for the exams:
- 17,862 candidates secured placements in state university undergraduate programs.
- 1,495 applicants entered programs reserved for ethnic minority students.
- 1,322 candidates enrolled in vocational training colleges.
- 1,795 candidates met exam benchmarks but failed to secure slots due to high competition and program prioritization choices.
- 3,744 candidates failed to clear the minimum exam thresholds.
Remaining candidates accepted positions in private institutions on tuition-paying terms. As part of broader higher education financing changes, the state has committed to fully covering the tuition fees of every student admitted to state universities for the current academic year.
Next Steps for Applicants
Registration for the vacant slots opens in the coming days. State officials emphasized that the measure remains an isolated administrative exception rather than a permanent policy shift for future admission cycles.
