Samsung Galaxy Buds4 and Buds4 Pro: A Deep Dive into the Latest Audio Tech

Samsung has officially unveiled its newest wireless earbuds, the Galaxy Buds4 and Galaxy Buds4 Pro, at its Galaxy Unpacked event. These earbuds boast redesigned aesthetics, improved sound quality, and new features aimed at competing with industry leaders like Apple’s AirPods. Both models are available for preorder now and will be released on March 11th.1

Design and Construction

Samsung has given both the Buds4 Pro and Buds4 a visual overhaul, featuring a flatter stem and metallic accents. This marks a departure from the more angular design of the Buds3.3 Like Apple’s AirPods, the Buds4 Pro and base models offer different eartip styles. The Buds4 feature a semi-open design, foregoing silicone eartips, while the Buds4 Pro utilize a sealed design with removable silicone eartips. The earbud cases maintain the transparent lid design from the previous generation. Battery life is rated for up to six hours with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) enabled, and up to 26 hours with the charging case.3

Controls and Features

Samsung has streamlined the user experience by integrating the earbud controls directly into the phone’s settings menu and control panel, moving them from the separate Wearable app.3 While this aims for seamless integration with Samsung devices, it may result in a less optimal experience for users of other brands. Controls remain intuitive, with sliding gestures for volume adjustment and pinching for playback control.3

The earbuds also retain features like live translation, wear detection, and automatic switching between ANC and ambient mode during conversations. The Buds4 Pro also includes Super Clear Call, which enhances voice clarity during calls by detecting the user’s voice and reducing ambient noise, and Siren Detect, which activates ambient sound to alert users to nearby alarms or emergency vehicles.3

Sound Quality and Noise-Canceling

The Galaxy Buds4 Pro are equipped with a dual-driver system, featuring a super wide woofer and a tweeter, along with a dual-amplifier. This configuration aims to deliver cleaner bass and crisp highs.3 Both models support high-quality audio up to 24bit/96kHz and direct multi-channel 360 audio.3

The Buds4 Pro offer improved Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and an enhanced Adaptive Equalizer for full-spectrum sound. While the ANC performance is a significant improvement over the 2024 model, it may not match the silence offered by competitors like Apple’s AirPods or Bose’s QuietComfort Ultras.3

Pricing and Availability

The Galaxy Buds4 are priced at $180, while the Galaxy Buds4 Pro are available for $250.3 Both models are available for preorder now and will be officially released on March 11th.1
