Samsung Galaxy S26 to Integrate Perplexity AI with ‘Hey Plex’ Hotword
Samsung is expanding its AI capabilities with the upcoming Galaxy S26 series, introducing Perplexity AI as a system-level agent accessible through the voice command “Hey Plex.” This addition joins existing AI assistants, ‘Hey Google’ and Bixby, creating a multi-agent ecosystem designed to cater to diverse user needs.
A Multi-Agent Approach to AI
Samsung’s strategy centers around recognizing that users often leverage different AI agents for specific tasks. The company aims to provide a more flexible and integrated AI experience by allowing users to choose the agent best suited for their current activity. This move differentiates Samsung from competitors like Apple and Google by offering greater user control and customization.
How ‘Hey Plex’ Works
The “Hey Plex” hotword will activate Perplexity AI on flagship Galaxy devices, specifically the S26 series. This isn’t simply a shortcut to the Perplexity app; the integration is deeply embedded within the operating system. Perplexity will have access to core Samsung apps, including Samsung Notes, Clock, Gallery, Reminder, and Calendar, as well as select third-party applications.
Seamless Integration Across Apps
This system-level integration allows for smoother, multi-step workflows. For example, users can initiate a task using Perplexity and seamlessly transition between apps without manual intervention. Samsung envisions users being able to research a topic, create a note, set a reminder, and schedule a calendar event all through a single voice command.
Perplexity and the Rebooted Bixby
Perplexity is also being integrated into a revamped version of Bixby. When a user invokes “Hey Plex,” the command is routed through Bixby, which then utilizes Perplexity as its search engine. This means Perplexity functions as a new information source for Bixby, enhancing its capabilities.
Expanding the Galaxy AI Ecosystem
Samsung’s vision extends beyond simply adding another AI agent. The company’s data indicates that nearly 80% of users rely on more than two AI agents daily, highlighting the need for a cohesive multi-agent ecosystem. This approach aims to create a more intuitive and efficient user experience, where different AI services work together contextually.
Availability and Rollout
The integration of Perplexity is expected to debut with the Galaxy S26 series. While initially focused on flagship devices, Samsung has indicated that the rollout may extend to older devices, though a specific list of supported models has not yet been released. The integration is already appearing in the One UI 8.5 Beta 5, even on the Galaxy S25 series.
Samsung is scheduled to unveil further details about Galaxy AI and its multi-agent future at its Unpacked event on February 25, 2026.
