Samsung Galaxy S26 Series: A Deep Dive into the Latest Smartphones
Samsung has unveiled its latest flagship smartphone lineup: the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra. Building on the foundation of the Galaxy S25 series, the S26 models introduce refinements in design, display technology, performance, and AI integration. This article provides a comprehensive overview of the new features and specifications.
Design: A Shared Aesthetic
The Galaxy S26 series maintains Samsung’s signature rounded rectangular form factor with flat sides. The Galaxy S26 Ultra features more rounded corners compared to the slightly squared-off design of the S25 Ultra. A notable design change is the rear camera assembly, which now incorporates three cameras within a pill-shaped section, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
The Galaxy S26 is the most compact of the three, measuring 5.89 x 2.82 x 0.28 inches and weighing 5.89 ounces. The S26+ measures 6.24 x 2.98 x 0.29 inches and weighs 6.70 ounces. The Galaxy S26 Ultra is the largest, measuring 6.44 x 3.07 x 0.31 inches and weighing 7.55 ounces.
None of the models include a microSD card slot for storage expansion or a 3.5mm headphone jack. The Galaxy S26 Ultra continues to house the embedded S Pen, though it lacks Bluetooth connectivity and Air Actions. The frames are constructed from aluminum, replacing the titanium found in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The Galaxy S26 and S26+ utilize Gorilla Armor glass for screen protection, while the Galaxy S26 Ultra employs Gorilla Armor 2. All three phones are IP68-rated for dust and water resistance.
The Galaxy S26 line is available in Black, Cobalt Violet, Sky Blue, and White, with online-exclusive finishes of Silver Shadow and Pink Gold.
Displays: Small, Medium, or Large
The Galaxy S26 series features flat Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays with a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The Galaxy S26 has a 6.3-inch display with a resolution of 2,340 x 1,080 pixels, an increase from the S25’s 6.2-inch screen. The S26+ boasts a 6.7-inch screen with a resolution of 3,120 x 1,440 pixels.
The Ultra model features a 6.9-inch display with the same 3,120 x 1,440 pixel resolution as the S26+. A key new feature is the Privacy Display, which limits the screen’s viewing angle to prevent off-angle visibility. This feature can be applied to the entire screen or specific portions to conceal notifications. Samsung has also upgraded its Pro Scaler technology, enhancing the upscaling of source content to match the screen’s resolution for a richer and sharper image.
Power: The Latest, Fastest Chips
All Galaxy S26 models are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chip. This processor offers a 39% increase in NPU performance, a 24% increase in GPU performance, and a 19% increase in CPU performance compared to the previous generation chip in the Galaxy S25 line.
The phones are offered with 12GB of RAM, with the Ultra model also available with 16GB. Storage options include 256GB and 512GB for all three models, with the Ultra adding a 1TB option.
Connectivity: All Galaxy S26 Models Are Not Equal
All Galaxy S26 models support sub-6GHz 5G networks. Still, the Galaxy S26+ and S26 Ultra also add support for mmWave 5G, the fastest form of 5G available.
Cameras: The Ultra Pulls Away
The Samsung Galaxy S26 and S26+ share the same camera array. The rear camera setup includes a 50MP main shooter (f/1.8), a 12MP ultra-wide lens (f/2.2), and a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom (f/2.4).
The Galaxy S26 Ultra features a more advanced camera system, including a 200MP main camera (f/1.4), a 50MP ultra-wide lens (f/1.9), a 50MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom (f/2.9), and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom (f/2.4). Samsung states that the 200MP camera is 47% brighter and the 50MP telephoto lens is 38% brighter than previous generations, due to their larger apertures. All three models utilize a 12MP front-facing camera (f/2.2). All models can record video in 8K resolution at up to 30fps, with improved video image stabilization.
Batteries: Big Enough?
The battery capacities of the Galaxy S26+ and Galaxy S26 Ultra remain unchanged from the previous generation, with 4,900mAh and 5,000mAh cells, respectively. The smallest S26 has a 4,300mAh battery, an increase from the S25’s 4,000mAh battery.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra supports up to 60W wired charging (up from 45W) and up to 25W wireless charging. The S26+ supports up to 45W wired charging and up to 20W wireless charging (up from 15W). The Galaxy S26 supports 15W wireless charging. All three models are Qi2 compatible.
Software: AI Is Everywhere
All three phones run Android 16 with Samsung’s One UI. These devices will receive seven years of OS updates and seven years of security updates.
Samsung has integrated AI throughout the S26 line. Photos can be edited using prompts within the Gallery app, including adjustments to time of day and lighting. Audio Eraser now works in third-party apps like Instagram, Netflix, and YouTube, in addition to the Gallery app. The new AI agent functionality allows users to delegate tasks, such as booking an Uber, directly through the phone. Circle to Search by Google and Google Gemini are also onboard, alongside Samsung’s Bixby assistant.
Which Galaxy S26 Is Right For You?
The Galaxy S26 Ultra is the most powerful option, offering the most storage and RAM. The Galaxy S26 is ideal for those seeking a compact and pocketable phone. The Galaxy S26+ provides a balance between size and features, without the S Pen.
