Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 3 adds iPhone compatibility and smaller design

Samsung has announced the Galaxy SmartTag 3, a redesigned item tracker that introduces a smaller physical footprint, extended battery life, and cross-platform compatibility with Apple iPhones. According to Samsung’s press release, the third-generation tracker is 35 percent smaller and 33 percent lighter than its predecessor, dropping the built-in mounting loop in favor of dedicated accessories.

Design Changes and Extended Battery Performance

The Galaxy SmartTag 3 ditches the integrated ring design found on the SmartTag 2, relying instead on add-on cases and accessories for attachment to items like pet collars, keys, and bicycle frames. This compact build houses a CR2032 coin battery that delivers up to 550 days of use under standard conditions, or up to 790 days when operating in Power Saving Mode. Samsung notes that the hardware is 10 percent more power-efficient overall, while offering a compass view that functions up to 60 meters, or roughly 200 feet, away.

Samsung's SmartTag3 Finally Works With iPhones

Cross-Platform Compatibility and Network Integration

For the first time in the product line, the SmartTag 3 works with Apple iPhones alongside Samsung Galaxy devices through the SmartThings Find app. While iPhone users can track the tags, they do not contribute to the underlying Galaxy Find Network, which currently spans over 900 million connected devices. Despite opening up to iOS, the tracker still lacks integration with Google’s broader Android Find Hub network, remaining restricted outside of Samsung’s own ecosystem on Android.

New Tracking and Proactive Alert Features

Samsung has equipped the tracker with several software enhancements, including Place Notification, which triggers an alert when a tagged object enters or leaves a predefined geofenced area. Location History allows users to review the past paths of their items, while Movement Detection Alert sends notifications as soon as physical movement is registered. Additional features comprise NFC-powered Lost Mode, SmartThings IoT Control for triggering smart home routines via the device button, and Left Behind Alerts.

Pricing and Regional Availability

The Galaxy SmartTag 3 is priced at 39.9 euros for a single unit and 129.9 euros for a four-pack in European markets, where it is scheduled for release in the loop of 2027. In the United States and other regions, the device will cost $29.99 for an individual tracker and $99.99 for a four-pack, with a retail launch arriving in early November.
