Nancy Guthrie (84) was reported missing from her home north of Tucson in Arizona on Sunday after she did not show up at church. She was last seen the night before at around 9.45pm after dinner at her daughter Annie’s.
The police believe she was taken, “possibly in the middle of the night”, and that it may be a case of kidnapping. The FBI and local police are investigating the case.
Pima County Police Chief Chris Nanos describes the elderly woman as frail with very limited mobility. She could not have left home without help, he says.
At least three news outlets have received a possible ransom note, but no law enforcement agency has confirmed that it is genuine. The FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said Friday they are investigating a new tip about Guthrie.

– We love Nancy and pray for Nancy. It is heartbreaking for the whole community, says Ed Coates of St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, where Nancy has been a member.
A neighbor, Laura Gargano, admits that people in the area have upgraded security since the 84-year-old disappeared. Others review surveillance footage at the request of the police.
