Seán McGirr: From Dublin to Dressing Hollywood’s Elite
Dubliner Seán McGirr, the creative director of Alexander McQueen, has rapidly grow a sought-after stylist for some of the world’s biggest stars. His recent operate includes dressing Kylie Jenner, Barry Keoghan, and Zendaya for high-profile events, solidifying his place as a rising force in the fashion industry.
A Rising Star in Fashion
McGirr’s journey began in Dublin, where he grew up tailoring his school uniform because he disliked the fit. He honed his skills with a sewing machine during his teenage years, inspired by bands like the Arctic Monkeys and The Libertines, favoring a “sharp and skinny” aesthetic. After completing his Leaving Cert, he moved to London at age 19 to pursue his passion.
Recent High-Profile Styling Moments
McGirr’s talent was on full display during the lead-up to the 2026 Oscars and beyond. He dressed Kylie Jenner and Barry Keoghan for the awards ceremony, and Zendaya for an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. He described the experience as a whirlwind, stating, “We dressed Kylie Jenner, Barry Keoghan, and Zendaya in the last 48 hours. It’s not been very chill but all exciting at the same time!”
Zendaya and the New McQueen Collection
Zendaya was the first to wear a piece from McQueen’s new collection, recently showcased at Paris Fashion Week. McGirr admitted to being surprised at how quickly the garment reached her, saying, “I’m still kind of confused as to how we got the clothes over to her in such a short space of time, but it happened.”
Irish Heritage and Design Inspiration
McGirr’s Irish heritage continues to influence his designs. In 2025, he created a custom piece for Chappell Roan, inspired by the Irish mythological figure of the Banshee, for a performance in Mexico City. He noted Roan’s understanding of the story and how she brought the design to life.
A Growing Client List
Beyond Jenner, Keoghan, and Zendaya, McGirr’s clientele includes Lana Del Rey, Miley Cyrus, Teyana Taylor, Charli XCX, Zoe Saldana, and Margot Robbie. He values the collaborative process with his clients, stating, “I’m inspired by them, hopefully they’re inspired by me, and then you create something beautiful together.”
Spotlight at the Vanity Fair Oscars After Party
Both Barry Keoghan and Kylie Jenner wore McQueen designs to the Vanity Fair Oscars After Party. Keoghan sported a suit from the upcoming men’s collection, featuring an embroidered lapel, while Jenner wore a structural gown constructed with chiffon “feathers” that took months to create, with fittings in both London and Los Angeles. Jenner’s attention to detail made the fitting process a “real pleasure,” according to McGirr.
A Dublin Connection
McGirr expressed particular pride in dressing fellow Dubliner Barry Keoghan, stating, “It’s nice for me as Barry is a fellow Dubliner, so it means a lot.”
