Seattle Seahawks rookie safety Bud Clark faces a multi-month recovery after breaking his right ankle during a preseason game against the Tennessee Titans, head coach Mike Macdonald confirmed.
Opening-Series Cart-Off Stuns Both Sidelines
The injury struck during the opening defensive series of the contest. Medical staff rushed onto the field immediately, securing Clark’s leg with an air splint. Players from both squads watched in concern as training staff carted the rookie away from the action.
Coach Reacts to Heartbreaking Preseason Toll
“Two guys that we love, that embody our play style and are exactly our types,” Macdonald said of Clark and fellow injured Mason Richman. “The teammates love them, great teammates, awesome guys, outstanding football players. They have a bright future ahead of them. It’s really heartbreaking. We’ve had three such setbacks this week alone, it’s tough.”
Draft Pedigree and Roster Adjustments
Clark entered the NFL as the Seahawks’ second-round selection, going 64th overall out of the Texas Christian University.
Linebacker Connor O’Toole addressed the emotional toll of the incident on the sideline. According to O’Toole, realizing the severity of the pain and the recovery process shifts perspectives beyond the sport. Teammates paused to regroup following the cart-off, offering support and keeping the rookie in their thoughts.
Compounding Injuries Thin Offensive Line and Receiving Corps
The setback compounds a difficult week of health developments for the Seahawks’ roster. Offensive lineman Mason Richman also sustained a severe, long-term injury during the same matchup against Tennessee. Richman went down on the team’s first offensive drive, requiring medical evaluation of his right leg before being helped off the turf. Macdonald confirmed that while a definitive diagnosis is still pending, the lineman’s absence will be extended.

Additionally, wide receiver Jake Bobo sustained an injury during joint practices with the Titans on Friday. The team officially placed Bobo on the injured reserve list on Saturday, further thinning the offensive personnel group as the preseason schedule progresses.
