Johor Assemblyman Urges Follow-Through on Road Upgrade Promise

Segamat, Johor – Urogashi village chief Tan Lien Zong publicly urged a local people’s representative to fulfill a promise of RM200,000 in funding for upgrades to Tan Siew Ban Road. The promise was reportedly made during a Chinese Modern Year event on Urogashi Avenue last year, but no funds have been allocated as of February 22, 2026.

Call for Accountability

Tan Lien Zong addressed the issue at a New Year Open Door Event in the Urogash constituency, stating his hope that those close to the representative would remind them of the commitment. He noted that the representative had initially promised the funds would be transferred to the village committee’s account within 3 to 5 days, but a year has passed without any disbursement.

He playfully remarked on the representative’s recent promotion to deputy minister, suggesting that voters should consider this when evaluating their representatives. Tan Lien Zong emphasized the importance of representatives following through on their promises, stating they must “dare to speak and act” and avoid making commitments they do not keep.

Praise for Local Assemblyman

In contrast, Tan Lien Zong praised Urogash assemblyman Datuk Zaharie Shahri for his reliability. He highlighted that Zaharie Shahri had committed to holding the Open Door event this year and followed through on that promise.

Tan Lien Zong encouraged voters to retain effective representatives and hold those who fail to deliver accountable, stating, “the good people’s representatives should be retained, and the awful ones should be told to go back to planting sweet potatoes.” He cautioned voters against regretting the loss of good representatives, emphasizing Zaharie Shahri’s dedication to the community.

Community Appreciation

Tan Lien Zong also expressed gratitude to the volunteers who helped decorate Urogash Street for the New Year, acknowledging their late-night efforts in hanging lanterns and assisting with the Open Door event preparations. He expressed pride in the community’s efforts, even while acknowledging that the decorations may not be as elaborate as those in nearby Liminda.

Commitment to Unity and Development

Datuk Zaharie Shahri, who also serves as the chairman of the Johor State Agriculture, Agro-based Industries and Rural Development Committee, affirmed the importance of unity and celebrating festivals together peacefully. He highlighted that Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Ong Hafiz has allocated funds to various ethnic groups, demonstrating the state government’s commitment to development. He also noted Johor’s leading position in foreign investment within the country.

Land Tax Reduction for Local School

Zaharie Shahri announced that the state government had approved a reduction in land tax for Jashi Jashi Primary School, lowering it from RM96,000 to a symbolic RM10. He attributed this achievement to the collaborative efforts of the state government, the Dong Family Association, and others.
