Sendai High School secures Spring National Invitation Tournament spot after dramatic semifinal win
The Sendai Ikuei High School baseball team secured its qualification for the upcoming spring national invitational tournament on October 17, 2026, after defeating Hachinohe Gakuin Kosei High School 8–7 in the Tohoku regional tournament semifinals at Ishinomaki City Stadium. The game lasted 3 hours and 31 minutes, concluding with a tense 10th-inning finish.
Yotsuha Hoshi guides game day operations from the broadcast booth
Yotsuha Hoshi, a third-year student acting as a student coach and manager, handled the stadium’s public address announcing for the semifinal matchup. Dressed in a school uniform topped with a jersey rather than her usual summer playing attire, Hoshi delivered clear announcements across the field during the autumn afternoon. Because the game was broadcast live online, she adjusted her pacing when introducing defensive lineups in the opening inning to account for television camera angles. Various situations help build your ability to anticipate outcomes,
Hoshi said. I am very grateful and honored to handle this during such an important match.
Continuing team support after summer retirement
While Hoshi and her fellow third-year class members retired from active participation following the summer national championship, she continues to assist the squad with practice drills and data analysis. Everyone is currently focusing on studying and individual practice for their respective career paths, but we are all working together as one team with the sole desire to give something back to the first- and second-year students who supported our generation so much, Hoshi told.
Witnessing a 10th-inning victory
Following the final out in the 10th inning, Hoshi watched from the sidelines as the younger players celebrated their narrow victory on the diamond. Reflecting on the team’s recovery from their summer loss at Koshien Stadium against Chiben Wakayama High School, Hoshi shared her reaction to the regional win. I almost started crying, even though it sounds selfish,
Hoshi said. The younger players shed tears of regret after losing to Chiben Wakayama in the summer, but today they secured this win. There is nothing happier than this.
