Senegal Accelerates Digital Transformation in Education with AI and Digital Skills Certification

Senegal is making significant strides in modernizing its education system through a nationwide initiative to equip educators with essential digital and artificial intelligence (AI) skills. A recent ceremony marked a pivotal moment, with over 3,400 education agents receiving certifications in Digital Competencies (C2i-Edu) and Artificial Intelligence for Education (CIA-Edu).

National Certification Program Results

The Ministry of National Education, under the leadership of Minister Moustapha Mamba Guirassy, has successfully certified 3,467 agents out of 3,909 participants, achieving an overall success rate of 88.69%. This demonstrates a strong commitment to integrating technology into the Senegalese education system.

The CIA-Edu certification, focusing on AI applications in education, boasted a particularly high success rate of 93.1%. The C2i-Edu certification, covering fundamental digital skills, achieved a rate of 85.3%. Notably, intermediate and advanced levels within both certifications saw success rates exceeding 96%, indicating rapid and structured skill development among education personnel.

Government Support and Future Plans

The certification ceremony, presided over by Minister Guirassy and attended by representatives from the government, including the Minister of Higher Education and the Director of Cabinet of the Minister of Communication, underscores the government’s unified support for digital transformation.

Building on this success, the Ministry of National Education plans to expand the program nationally. Future phases will focus on providing enhanced support for beginner-level agents and implementing targeted measures to increase female participation. This initiative aims to build a skilled workforce capable of effectively integrating digital tools and AI into pedagogical practices, fostering a more efficient, inclusive, and future-oriented education system.

Strategic Vision for Senegal’s Education Future

This investment in human capital is viewed as a strategic move to build a school system prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the digital age. The Ministry aims to consolidate a workforce equipped to leverage digital tools and AI to enhance teaching methods and improve educational outcomes for all students.

As part of a broader national effort, Senegal recently launched a refoundation of its school system in January 2026, signaling a historic commitment to its future. The Ministry of National Education is also actively engaging with religious authorities to integrate traditional learning institutions, known as daaras, into the national education framework.
