Seoul Drama Awards Organizing Committee Launches AI Trailer Contest to Celebrate 70 Years of Korean Drama
The Seoul Drama Awards Organizing Committee announced the “Korean Drama 70th Anniversary AI Trailer Contest” on July 6, inviting creators to submit AI-generated trailers for original drama concepts. The competition, running from July 13 to August 31, offers a total prize pool of 14 million won to foster innovation in drama production and celebrate the industry’s legacy, according to the committee.
How to Participate: AI Tools and Creative Guidelines
Eligible participants must use AI video tools to create a three-minute trailer based on a self-conceived drama logline, characters, and worldbuilding. Submissions will be evaluated on originality, intellectual property (IP) potential, and the effective use of AI technology, with results combining judge assessments and public voting. The winners will be revealed at the 70th-anniversary celebration on October 6 at COEX Magok Le West Hall.
Prizes and Competition Scope
The contest features a top prize of 5 million won for the grand winner, with 3 million won each for two “best works” and 1 million won for three “excellent works.” The event aims to “uncover new drama planning and trailer creation possibilities in the AI and short-form era,” as stated by the committee. 352 dramas from 46 countries participated in the 21st Seoul Drama Awards, setting a record, with short-form dramas from 10 countries contributing 49 entries.

Context: K-Drama’s Global Expansion and Technological Shifts
The Seoul Drama Awards saw a surge in global participation, with short-form dramas—known for their concise runtime and immersive narratives—drawing particular attention. The committee emphasized that the AI trailer initiative seeks to "inspire the next generation of creators to showcase their unique drama worlds," highlighting the intersection of tradition and technology in Korean entertainment.
