Seth Rollins Recalls Vince McMahon’s Last-Minute WWE Debut Change for The Shield

Seth Rollins shared a story about his first encounter with Vince McMahon, recalling a last-minute change the former WWE Chairman made to The Shield’s debut presentation in 2012.

During an interview on “Club Shay Shay,” Rollins described the initial plans for The Shield’s arrival at Survivor Series. The group was originally slated to appear in turtlenecks and cargo pants, and was even offered “riot gear” – plexiglass shields and clubs.

“You can just hear his deep voice, like, echo through the empty arena. He’s like, ‘What? You need clubs to beat them up? Are you really that tough, hmm?’” Rollins recounted McMahon asking, leading The Shield to discard the clubs. “So that was my first introduction to Vince’s ‘Vinceisms,’” Rollins added.

Rollins’ experience aligns with accounts from other WWE personnel, such as former writer Jimmy Jacobs, who noted McMahon’s tendency to craft changes on the fly. Jacobs previously described navigating McMahon’s creative process as the most challenging aspect of his job, highlighting the constant last-minute adjustments despite the consistent level of WWE production.
