Shanghai is solidifying its position as a leading global cruise hub, experiencing meaningful growth in both ship voyages and passenger numbers throughout 2025. according to data released by Shanghai Customs,the port recorded a total of 544 inbound and outbound cruise ship voyages,a considerable 17.5% increase compared to the figures reported in 2024. This translates to an average of approximately 1.5 voyages per day, marking a record high for the bustling port city.
The surge in cruise activity has directly contributed to a dramatic rise in passenger traffic. In 2025, Shanghai Port welcomed 1.857 million passengers traveling via cruise ships – a remarkable 35.1% increase from the previous year.This growth underscores the increasing popularity of cruise travel among both domestic and international tourists.
A key driver of this expansion is the success of China’s first domestically built large cruise ship, the Adora Magic City. Launched in 2024, the vessel completed 170 voyages in 2025, carrying 672,000 passengers. this represents a year-over-year increase of 2% in voyages and 12% in passenger numbers.As its inaugural voyage, the Adora Magic City has completed a total of 337 voyages, serving an extraordinary 1.272 million passengers.
