FKA Twigs Sues Shia LaBeouf Over Alleged Illegal NDA Following Abuse Settlement

FKA Twigs has filed a lawsuit against her ex-partner, Shia LaBeouf, alleging he attempted to extract money from her for allegedly violating a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) tied to their 2025 settlement agreement stemming from a 2020 lawsuit. The singer, whose real name is Tahliah Barnett, claims LaBeouf is attempting to silence her from discussing alleged abuse and sharing her experiences.

Background: The 2020 Lawsuit and Settlement

In 2020, Barnett sued LaBeouf, accusing him of sexual battery, assault, and mental abuse during their relationship between 2018 and 2019. The lawsuit was settled in 2025, and included an NDA. According to the new lawsuit, LaBeouf filed a “secret arbitration complaint” in December 2025 following an interview Barnett gave to The Hollywood Reporter in October 2025.

The Disputed Interview and LaBeouf’s Response

During the interview, Barnett was asked if she felt “safe” after the ordeal with LaBeouf. She responded, “No, I wouldn’t say I feel safe,” and expressed her passion for supporting organizations that help survivors of sexual violence. LaBeouf and his attorneys allegedly used this “laudable, generic, and benign” statement as grounds to seek “exorbitant monies” from Barnett, claiming it violated the NDA.

Legal Arguments: Challenging the NDA’s Validity

Barnett’s lawsuit, filed in the Superior Court of Los Angeles, argues that the NDA is “unlawful” and violates California’s Stand Together Against Non-Disclosure Act (STAND Act). This act prohibits NDAs in settlement agreements related to sexual assault and harassment. Her attorney, Mathew Rosengart, who previously represented Britney Spears in her conservatorship case, contends that LaBeouf is attempting to control Barnett and silence survivors of abuse.

Allegations of Control and Intimidation

The lawsuit claims LaBeouf has attempted to “control” Barnett “for the better part of a decade.” Rosengart argues that LaBeouf’s actions are not about money, but about silencing Barnett and discouraging other survivors from coming forward. The complaint states that Barnett is acting “on behalf of other women who are the victims of sexual and domestic violence who do not have the resources to speak out and defend themselves from predators.”

Further Allegations: Restrictions on Charitable Work

The lawsuit further alleges that the NDA contains provisions attempting to restrict Barnett’s ability to donate to charities related to domestic and/or sexual violence or abuse. The complaint argues this is an attempt to silence not only Barnett’s personal story but as well her support for other survivors.

LaBeouf’s Recent Conduct and Contradictory Statements

The lawsuit highlights a perceived contradiction in LaBeouf’s actions. While pursuing the arbitration claim against Barnett, he was arrested twice in New Orleans in February 2026 on assault charges. He voluntarily discussed his relationship with Barnett in a YouTube interview, allegedly breaching the confidentiality provisions he was attempting to enforce against her.

Seeking Declaratory Relief

Barnett is seeking a court order declaring the NDA unlawful, invalid, and unenforceable. She is also requesting her attorneys’ fees related to the lawsuit. The lawsuit emphasizes the importance of protecting survivors’ rights and preventing abusers from using NDAs to silence their victims.
