Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa revealed new facts behind the sealing of the Tiffany & Co gold shop by the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) Jakarta Regional Office (Kanwil).

According to Purbaya, his party discovered that there had been violations committed by the gold shop.

“Customs and Excise, I asked them how it was? Most of the goods that came in were not paid for. They suspected that this was smuggled or not, they were told to show me what the trade was called, the trade form, the import, they couldn’t show anything. So it was indeed Spanish goods,” explained Purbaya at Wisma Danantara, Jakarta, Friday (13/2/2026).

Purbaya said that some goods do pay tax, but there are indications that there is a practice of underinvoicing or stating a lower value of goods in order to reduce tax obligations.

“Some are really full of contraband, there are those who only pay under invoice. That’s all visible. So there are those who say to me, it should be the police but what turns out to be Customs and Tax will be merged with Customs and Tax,” he added.

Purbaya said the action against Tiffany & Co was a warning to other entrepreneurs to comply with the rules. He also claims that other entrepreneurs are starting to comply with paying taxes.

“Yes, that means not paying half, some are under invoicing. This is a good message for business people who are not very fair, which I gave so that their income from Customs and Tax will decrease in the future. They can’t do things like that anymore. Some of the converts said there are those who want to pay,” said Purbaya.
