Matt Sieg Named National High School Player of the Year Finalist

MORGANTOWN,W.Va. – West Virginia University football signee Matt Sieg has been recognized as a finalist for the 2025 National High School Player of the Year award,as announced by the Maxwell Football Club [[1]]. This is the 19th year of the prestigious award, and Sieg is the first WVU signee to achieve this honor.

A Historic Career at Fort Cherry High School

Sieg distinguished himself as a dual-threat quarterback and defensive back for Fort cherry High School in McDonald, Pennsylvania. He initially committed to Penn State but dramatically flipped his commitment to West Virginia [[2]].

  • Fort Cherry High School’s all-time leading rusher

Record-Breaking Statistics

Sieg’s career stats are exceptionally extraordinary, setting numerous WPIAL records. He accumulated a total of 12,592 yards in offense and scored 139 touchdowns [[1]]. Notably, he is the second player in WPIAL history to surpass both 4,000 rushing and 4,000 passing yards. He also holds the distinction of being the first player to reach 5,000 rushing yards and 3,000 passing yards in a career.

As a senior, Sieg was a dominant force racking up 2,259 all-purpose yards, 30 touchdowns, 45 tackles, and four interceptions [[1]].
