Sigma is set to release the second generation of its highly-regarded 35mm F1.4 lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras in April 2026. The modern «Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG II | Art» builds upon the legacy of the Art series, known for its exceptional performance and build quality, promising improved resolution, a more compact design, and enhanced features for both photographers and videographers.

Building on a Legacy of Excellence

The original Sigma 35mm F1.4 Art lens, first introduced for DSLRs and later adapted for mirrorless systems in 2021, quickly gained a reputation for its image quality and fast aperture. Sigma’s latest iteration aims to refine this formula, addressing previous limitations and incorporating advancements in optical and mechanical design.

Key Improvements and Features

• Enhanced Optical Performance: The 35mm F1.4 DG II | Art features a completely redesigned optical formula with 15 elements in 12 groups, incorporating new glass materials, four high-precision aspherical elements, and two SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements. This configuration is designed to deliver exceptional resolution across the entire image area, even at its widest aperture, and effectively minimize aberrations like axial chromatic aberration.
• Improved Bokeh: Sigma has focused on creating a more pleasing bokeh experience. Correcting axial chromatic aberration not only reduces color fringing within the focal plane but as well in out-of-focus areas, resulting in smoother, more natural background blur. The lens utilizes 11 rounded aperture blades to maintain a circular shape even when stopped down.
• Advanced Coating: A newly developed AAC (Advanced Amorphous Coating) is applied to the lens elements to minimize reflections, ghosting, and flare, contributing to higher contrast and clearer images.
• Compact and Lightweight Design: Utilizing a floating focus system and space-saving mechanical innovations, the new lens is approximately 30% lighter and 20% shorter than its predecessor. Sigma states the L-Mount version weighs 530g, although the Sony E-Mount version weighs 525g.
