Founded by San Jose native Abram Chandler, the eatery has quickly gained a loyal following for its quality ingredients, unique flavor combinations, and commitment to customer service.

From Plumbing to Patties: A Local Entrepreneur’s Journey

Abram Chandler, 47, embarked on an entrepreneurial path that led him back to his roots on Sixth Street. Born and raised two blocks from the restaurant’s current location, Chandler attended Horace Mann Elementary on Sixth Street. After working as a plumbing contractor since 2004, he decided to pursue his long-held dream of opening a restaurant.

The Smashburger Difference

Sixth Street Burger focuses on the “smashburger” technique, creating patties that are LP-record thin with crispy edges. The burgers are made with 80/20 Wagyu beef, chosen for its rich marbling, and feature three New School American cheeses: cheddar, jalapeño jack, and Swiss. The restaurant uses potato buns from Martins Bakery in Philadelphia and simple seasoning – salt and pepper – to let the quality of the ingredients shine.

Menu Highlights and Unique Flavors

While offering classic burger variations like single, double, and triple patties, Sixth Street Burger as well boasts more adventurous options. These include mushroom with Swiss, grilled jalapeño, chili-cheese, western with bacon and onion rings, and a surprising peanut butter Wagyu burger inspired by Thai flavors. A standout item is the Smashburger Taco, featuring three smashed patties on a flour tortilla with shredded lettuce, jalapeño cheese, onion, and the restaurant’s take on San Jose’s famous orange sauce, served with a grilled jalapeño.

The Royal Burger Challenge

For those seeking a true test of appetite, Sixth Street Burger offers the Royal Burger – an eight-patty, two-pound behemoth. Customers who can finish the burger and an order of fries in five minutes win $100, a t-shirt, and a hat. Those who complete the challenge in eight minutes receive a hat and t-shirt. Rules apply, including no disassembling the burger and a five-minute wait before standing up after finishing. According to Chandler, only one person has successfully completed the challenge in four minutes flat.
