Janatová and Novák Shine at Oslo World Cup, Scheibová Secures Globe

Oslo, Norway – Kateřina Janatová delivered a strong performance at the World Cup in Oslo, finishing tenth in the 50-kilometer free technique race, while Michal Novák secured a fifteenth-place finish in the men’s event. Elsewhere, Julia Scheibová clinched the giant slalom slight crystal globe in Aare and Zuzana Maděrová competed in Canada.

Cross-Country Skiing: Oslo World Cup

Kateřina Janatová’s tenth-place finish in Oslo marked her second-best result of the season, surpassed only by her ninth-place finish in the 10-kilometer race in Oberhof in January. Czech Television Sport reports she finished over three minutes behind the winner, Frida Karlssonová.

“Highly demanding, probably the most difficult race this season,” Janatová stated on the association’s website. “I was running out of energy, the descents were very slippery and it was effortless to lose my balance. In the last two hills, I tried to speed up and I found that the response of the girls around me was not great, and that encouraged me to the end.”

The women’s race was dominated by Swedish skiers, with Karlssonová winning ahead of Linn Svahn and Jonna Sundling. The men’s race saw a Norwegian sweep of the top eight positions, led by Einar Hedegart, followed by Harald Östberg Amundsen and Martin Löwström Nyenget.

Michal Novák’s fifteenth-place finish represented his third-best result of the season, according to Czech Television Sport. He finished one minute and 53 seconds behind Hedegart. Adam Fellner finished 34th.

Snowboarding: Canada and Switzerland

Zuzana Maděrová was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the parallel giant slalom snowboarders in Canada, finishing fifth overall.

Alpine Skiing: Aare

Julia Scheibová secured the small crystal globe for the giant slalom at the World Cup in Aare, Austria. This victory ended Austria’s ten-year wait for a triumph in this discipline. She won by 36 hundredths of a second ahead of American Paula Moltzanova.

Other Czech Performances

Czech ski jumper Klára Ulrichová scored in 28th place at Holmenkollen. Gregor Deschwanden won the SP race for the first time in Oslo, while Nika Prevcová won the first of the two weekend races in Oslo.
