Škoda Revives Iconic 100 model with Modern Luxury Design Concept

Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic – As Škoda Auto celebrates 130 years of automotive innovation, the company is looking to its rich history for inspiration. The latest endeavor from Škoda’s design team is a reimagining of the beloved Škoda 100, a model that holds a special place in the hearts of many Czech drivers and represents a significant milestone in the brand’s evolution. This isn’t merely a nostalgic exercise; it’s a bold exploration of how classic design can be infused with contemporary luxury and Škoda’s current “Modern Solid” design language.

The original Škoda 100, produced between 1969 and 1977, was a landmark vehicle, becoming the first Škoda model to surpass one million units in sales. In an era where car ownership wasn’t guaranteed, the 100 represented a step towards accessibility and personal freedom for many. Recognizing this emotional connection, designer Martin Paclt chose the 100 as the subject for a modern interpretation, aiming to create a vehicle that resonates with both past and present.

“I wanted to work with a car that people no well and that many have directly owned,” explains Paclt. “The Škoda 100 caught my attention with its clean and timeless shapes, even in connection with the current Modern Solid design direction.”

The resulting concept diverges from a simple retro revival.Paclt deliberately scaled the design up, taking cues from the proportions of the current Škoda Superb to create a vehicle that leans towards a luxury limousine aesthetic. The modern Škoda 100 is envisioned as a classic sedan, boasting elegant, flowing lines and expansive surfaces.

However, the design isn’t solely focused on replicating the past. Škoda has seamlessly integrated contemporary elements, including a distinctive four-eye headlight configuration, a sculpted hood featuring a prominent molding and the iconic Škoda logo. Furthermore, the concept incorporates full-width light strips at both the front and rear, a modern signature
