Snapchat Launches “Plans” for Real-World Event Organizing

Snap Inc. launched Snapchat Plans, a new suite of event-planning features designed to help users organize real-world gatherings directly within the app, according to an announcement made by the company on Thursday. The feature set allows users to create, share, and manage in-person events ranging from casual hangouts to birthday parties, positioning the platform to compete directly with dedicated invitation tools like Partiful.

How Snapchat Plans Work

The invitations are delivered straight to individual users through one-on-one chats rather than relying on sprawling group threads. Once invited, guests can respond with one of three RSVP statuses: “Going,” “Maybe,” or “Can’t Go.”

Hosts retain full control over the gatherings after creation. According to company details, organizers can track the attendee list, add more participants, and modify event specifics as plans change. Guests receive an automated reminder one hour before the event begins, and they retain the ability to alter their RSVP status at any time.

Profile Integration and Privacy Controls

A new “My Plans” section sits directly on user profiles, giving members a centralized place to review current, upcoming, and past events. Furthermore, viewing a friend’s profile reveals any events shared between the two users.

Snap Inc. emphasizes that all Snapchat Plans are private and strictly invite-only. The platform developed the feature in response to shifting user behavior, noting that Gen Z demographics increasingly seek out structured, in-person interactions rather than relying on fragmented social media announcements or buried messages.

Competitive Landscape in Digital Invitations

The rollout places Snapchat in direct competition with emerging event platforms. Partiful gained significant traction among young users organizing social gatherings outside of traditional social networks.
