“Snapshots” at Creative Cauldron Offers a Heartwarming Look at Marriage

Falls Church, VA – Creative Cauldron Stage is currently presenting Snapshots: A Musical Scrapbook, a compelling production exploring the complexities of a long-term relationship through the music of Stephen Schwartz. The show, running through March 8, 2026, offers a unique theatrical experience in the company’s intimate venue.

A Story Told Through Song

Snapshots isn’t a traditional musical revue. Whereas featuring nearly 30 songs from Stephen Schwartz’s extensive catalog – including works from Godspell, Pippin, and Wicked – the production is anchored by a storyline written by David Stern. The narrative centers on Sue and Dan, a couple contemplating separation, as Sue reflects on their life together through a scrapbook of memories. The clever staging incorporates younger versions of the couple, portrayed by additional cast members, to vividly recreate key moments in their relationship.

Strong Performances Bring the Story to Life

Jennifer Redford delivers a powerful performance as the older Sue, portraying a woman grappling with years of accumulated emotions. Joshua Redford, as her husband Dan, complements her with a nuanced portrayal of a man facing the potential loss of his marriage. The real-life husband and wife chemistry between Jennifer and Joshua Redford is palpable on stage.

Gretchen Midgley Kaylor and Ben Ribler shine as the younger versions of Sue and Dan, capturing the innocence and joy of their early romance. Sally Imbriano and Carl L. Williams portray the couple as young adults, embodying their passionate connection.

Creative Staging and Musicality

Director Matt Conner, along with scenic designer Margie Jervis and lighting designer Fern Middleton, effectively utilizes the intimate space of Creative Cauldron Stage. E. Lieu Wolhardt’s projections add depth to the impressionistic attic setting. Stefan Sittig’s choreography enhances the storytelling, and Elisa Rosman’s music direction ensures the Schwartz songs are beautifully rendered.
