SoDough Square is expanding its footprint in the Tampa Bay area with a new location at 138 S. Dale Mabry, marking the Central Florida-based Detroit-style pizza chain’s fifth overall restaurant, according to local coverage. The upcoming South Tampa site, slated to open later this summer, follows the brand’s regional debut in St. Petersburg earlier this year.

Expansion Across the Tampa Bay Region

The company launched its first Tampa Bay area restaurant in January at 6925 4th St. N. in St. Petersburg, kicking off a deliberate push into the Gulf Coast market after establishing three successful locations around Orlando. According to the company’s announcements, the new South Dale Mabry Highway site will join the existing portfolio as the fifth location, though management has not yet announced an exact opening date for the summer rollout.

Traditional Preparation and Proprietary Ingredients

SoDough Square specializes in traditional Detroit-style pizza, utilizing specific preparation methods and ingredients imported directly from Michigan. According to the company’s official website details cited by local media, every pizza is baked in traditional blue steel pans sourced from Michigan to impart the style’s characteristic heavy-duty crust.

The kitchen prepares every component in-house, including a signature Stanislaus tomato sauce and a proprietary brick cheese blend that is specifically shredded for the brand. The high-hydration dough undergoes a 24-hour fermentation process before hitting the pans, a technique that creates the signature “frico”—the caramelized cheese crust that defines authentic Detroit-style pizza.

Menu Offerings and Varieties

The menu features Detroit-style pies available in small or large sizes, with customers able to choose from more than a dozen specialty pies and topping combinations. In addition to pizza, the restaurant serves Detroit-style garlic bread, coney dogs, wings, salads, and “Detroit Dough Dots,” which are bite-sized cinnamon treats.
