‘Song Sung Blue’ Faces Backlash as Real Family Disputes Depiction

Mike and Claire Sardina gained popularity performing Neil Diamond covers in Wisconsin, eventually forming the duo “Lightning, and Thunder.” Their career included opening for Pearl Jam in 1995, a pivotal moment that boosted their recognition. The film draws inspiration from a 2008 documentary, also titled “Song Sung Blue,” which captured candid moments of the couple’s life, some of which were incorporated into the movie. Mike Sardina passed away in July 2006 following a brain bleed after a fall.

Family Disputes and Allegations

Mike Sardina Jr. And his sister, Angelina, have voiced their concerns regarding the film’s portrayal of their father and family. In an interview with the Daily Mail, Mike Jr. Expressed feeling “purposely cut out of the film” and criticized the lack of recognition for his role in his father’s life. He and Angelina were paid $30,000 to consult on the film, but perceive their input was insufficient. Mike Jr. Went further, calling Jackman and Hudson “monsters” for allegedly omitting his existence in interviews. He also criticized Hudson’s performance as lacking depth and the film itself as a “travesty.”

Despite the family’s objections, Kate Hudson and Hugh Jackman have received attention for their roles. Hudson portrays Claire Stengl, whereas Jackman embodies Mike Sardina.
