Sony Enters 200MP Mobile Camera sensor Race with LYTIA 901

Selular.id – Sony has officially launched the LYTIA 901 mobile camera sensor, boasting a 200MP resolution. This marks sony’s entry into the ultra-high resolution sensor competition, currently led by Samsung. The large-format sensor is designed with a focus on in-sensor zoom technology, AI remosaicing, adn a significantly increased dynamic range.

The LYTIA 901 represents a key moment in mobile camera technology. Sony, a major player in the image sensor market, is strengthening its position in the high-megapixel segment. This launch also intensifies competition with Samsung, which currently dominates with its ISOCELL HP2, HP5, and HP9 sensor series.

The two tech giants are taking different approaches to product growth. Sony is focusing on single-sensor performance with zoom capabilities processed directly within the sensor. Samsung, on the other hand, prioritizes versatility in multi-camera configurations and ultra-compact designs.

Technical Specifications Comparison

The Sony LYTIA 901 features a 1/1.12-inch optical format with a diagonal of 14.287mm,making it the largest sensor in the 200MP class. its 0.7μm pixel architecture utilizes a Quad-Quad Bayer Coding (QQBC) filter arrangement, improving light capture and dynamic range. This allows Sony to deliver flagship performance with a single main sensor, reducing the need for additional telephoto modules.

samsung has released several 200MP sensor variants with varying sizes.The ISOCELL HP2, used in devices like the Galaxy S25 Ultra, has a 1/1.3-inch format with 0.6μm pixels. The HP5, found in the Vivo Y500 Pro, measures 1/1.56 inch with 0.5μm pixels. The HP9, optimized for telephoto cameras in phones like the Vivo X100 ultra and Xiaomi 15 Ultra, uses a 1/1.4-inch format with 0.56μm pixels.

Pixel Binning and Zoom Technology

Sony implemented the QQBC structure on the LYTIA 901, grouping 16 pixels of the same color. This allows the sensor to capture 12.5MP images in low light, then switch to full resolution through a remosaicing process when zooming. the sensor also supports 2×2 binning for 50MP images.
