During the September 17 meeting of the 3rd General Student Representatives Assembly, officials revealed discrepancies in the college's balance sheets alongside modified transaction statements.
Reviewers noticed that the closing balance for the fourth quarter of 2025 did not match the opening balance for the first quarter of 2026. According to KU News, a subsequent review of transaction statements uncovered that specific documents submitted by former promotion director Kim Yun-ju had been altered.
During the review process, the student council requested reissued bank records. The newly issued statements revealed a different page count and an additional 4만 원 in expenditures compared to the documents originally submitted. Kim Yun-ju acknowledged withdrawing a total of 4만 원 from the student council account for personal use and subsequently altering the transaction statement to hide the withdrawals.
According to KU News, Kim Yun-ju explained that 3만 원 was withdrawn via KakaoPay linked to the student council account during a KakaoTalk gifting transaction, while 1만 원 was transferred to a personal main account to pay for a taxi. Kim stated that both amounts were restored to the student council account, denying any intent to embezzle or use the funds for personal gain, and admitted to poor management of the funds.
“I didn’t fully understand the student financial system and wanted to avoid having my personal mistakes made public,” Kim said, according to KU News, adding that returning the principal was previously thought to be sufficient.
Special Committee Launched to Investigate Accounting Discrepancies
Following the disclosures at the 3rd General Student Representatives Assembly, Sejong Vice Student Council President Jang Sun-gyu proposed the establishment of a special audit committee to thoroughly investigate potential further misuse of funds and accounting manipulations, as reported by KU News. The proposal passed with 21 votes in favor, 2 opposed, and 12 abstentions.
In addressing disciplinary measures for the student council, representatives debated reducing the college's student union fees for the second semester. KU News reported that a 10% fee reduction passed with 23 votes, while a 30% reduction received 13 votes. President O Mi-ryung stated that the reduced fees will be distributed equally among other organizations.
