The South Korean cinematic adaptation of the 2015 Hollywood comedy The Intern has captured the third spot in national pre-sale ticket charts as it enters its opening weekend, according to the Korean Film Council’s integrated ticketing network on September 19, 2026.

Box Office Standing and Advance Ticket Sales

As of 8:20 a.m. on September 19, 2026, the film The Intern recorded a national advance reservation rate of 13.9 percent, pulling in 91,441 pre-sale admissions according to the Korean Film Council. Directed by Kim Do-young—known for Kim Ji-young: Born 1982 and If Only—the film has held the number one spot in the daily box office rankings since its premiere on September 16, 2026.

On the day prior to the rankings update, the movie brought in 61,142 daily moviegoers, pushing its cumulative audience total to 189,862 admissions. The feature was distributed across 1,428 screens nationwide, where it played a total of 5,042 screenings. Box office tracking data shows a screen share of 22.7 percent and a screening share of 35.8 percent, alongside a seating share of 36.7 percent and a seat sales rate of 9.2 percent.

Cast and Production Details

The local adaptation reimagines the workplace comedy by centering on Seon-woo, played by Han So-hee, who rapidly scales her business within three years of its launch. Her routine shifts when a 37-year-veteran silver intern named Ki-ho, portrayed by Choi Min-sik, joins the company, setting up an office dynamic that bridges generation gaps and corporate hierarchies.

Alongside Choi Min-sik and Han So-hee, the ensemble cast features Kim Jun-han, Ryu Hye-young, Kim Geum-soon, Park Ye-ni, Kim Yo-han, Im Sung-gyun, and Yoon Sang-jeong. The project was directed by Kim Do-young, translating the original 2015 Hollywood workplace dynamic into a contemporary South Korean corporate setting.

Current Theatrical Landscape

The box office competition features strong holdovers alongside new entries. While The Intern maintains its lead in daily admissions during its opening frame, other titles continue robust runs, including the film Odyssey, which recently surpassed 11 million admissions after 33 days in theaters.
