Spotify Tests AI-Powered Personal Podcasts for Unlimited Customization

Spotify is testing AI-generated “Personal Podcasts” in the United States that merge individualized music streams with spoken-word audio synthesized from personal data sources like calendars and emails.

How Spotify Personal Podcasts Work

The experimental feature generates custom audio segments by drawing on external data streams, creating briefings that summarize daily appointments or messages. According to Wasenmüller, the technology aims to provide unlimited personalization by shifting away from static, pre-recorded content and toward dynamically rendered audio. Users can prompt the system with general requests, such as asking the AI to explain a specific topic, or allow the format to automatically aggregate information from connected applications like Google Calendar.

Spotify is currently running tests for the Personal Podcasts feature with a select group of users in the United States, with plans to expand the rollout to additional markets.

Germany’s Role in the Global Podcast Market

Germany remains a critical hub for Spotify’s audio strategy, representing the company’s second-largest podcast market globally, trailing only the United States. According to company figures, five of the top twenty most-streamed podcasts worldwide originate in Germany. The country’s catalog includes high-profile shows such as Gemischtes Hack, hosted by Felix Lobrecht and Tommi Schmitt, which sits just behind global top-ranked titles like The Joe Rogan Experience.
