Spotify Targets Runners With New Dynamic Music Feature
Spotify is rolling out a dedicated running mode in its mobile application to dynamically structure workout music around specific training phases, according to reports by LifeHacker. The new feature addresses a long-standing gap in music streaming platforms, which have heavily prioritized general artificial intelligence tools over fitness-specific synchronization features.
Exclusive Access Via the Fitness Hub
Available exclusively to Premium subscribers in the United States, the running mode can be accessed by searching for “fitness” within the Spotify app to open the Fitness Hub.
Customizing BPM Targets and Workout Durations
Users can select a musical genre to accompany their workout, adjust run durations, and set beats-per-minute (BPM) targets to match their pace.
The system generates personalized playlists within one to two minutes based on user-configured parameters. Listeners can also adjust a slider to control the volume of fresh music introduced into their rotation.
Optional Digital Coach Audio Cues
While the feature includes optional audio cues from a digital coach designed to offer general form reminders, users retain the ability to disable the audio coaching entirely.
Structuring Workouts Into Distinct Training Blocks
Unlike standard running playlists, Spotify’s running mode organizes songs by distinct training blocks, separating warm-ups, active intervals, and recovery or cool-down periods. Listeners can also build custom presets or modify existing configurations to fit specialized training routines.
