Spotify has begun testing a new feature called Reserved in the United States, allowing paying subscribers to secure concert tickets before the general public, according to a report by Bloomberg. The service, developed in collaboration with Live Nation and Ticketmaster, uses user data such as streaming activity and content sharing to identify the most engaged fans.

How Does Spotify’s Reserved Feature Work?

Eligible users aged 18 and older receive exclusive access to concert tickets through a timed window of approximately 24 hours, as reported by Axios. The algorithm prioritizes users who stream songs, save tracks, or share content, ensuring that “true fans” gain early access rather than ticket scalpers. Notifications are sent via the Spotify app, email, or push alerts, requiring users to enable location services and event alerts in their settings.

Purchase processing occurs through Ticketmaster, with Spotify advising users to link their accounts beforehand to streamline the process. Unclaimed tickets are then offered to the next users on the waitlist, as confirmed by Spotify’s official blog.

The feature aims to address long-standing criticism of ticketing systems, where demand often outpaces supply.
