Sri Lanka Women’s Cricket Team Secures Series Victory Over West Indies

ST GEORGE’S, Grenada – Sri Lanka’s women’s cricket team clinched a 2-1 T20 International series win against the West Indies, securing a nine-wicket victory in the decisive match at the National Cricket Stadium on Sunday, March 2, 2026.[4] The win follows Sri Lanka’s earlier success in the ODI series, which they won 2-1.

Spin Attack Dominates West Indies Innings

Sri Lanka’s spinners proved instrumental in restricting the West Indies to a modest total of 119 for 5. Sugandika Kumari struck early, dismissing Hayley Matthews, caught and bowled for 8, in the third over.[4] Ranaweera then quickly removed Shawnisha Hector, further denting the West Indies’ top order.[4] Sugandika continued her impressive spell, claiming a third wicket in the powerplay by dismissing Eboni Brathwaite.[4]

Despite a brief recovery led by Deandra Dottin, who struck three fours, the West Indies struggled to accelerate their scoring rate. Ranaweera eventually trapped Dottin lbw, and Kavisha Dilhari then bowled Stafanie Taylor for 24.[4] A late flourish from Chinelle Henry, who remained unbeaten on 32 off 15 balls, helped the West Indies add 36 runs in the final two overs, but it wasn’t enough to lift them to a more competitive total.[4]

Athapaththu and Perera Guide Sri Lanka to Victory

In reply, Sri Lanka got off to a flying start, with Chamari Athapaththu hitting four boundaries in the first three overs.[4] The opening partnership between Athapaththu and Vishmi Gunaratne Perera yielded 48 runs before Athapaththu was dismissed by Afy Fletcher for 32 off 22 balls.[4]

With the required rate comfortably below six an over, Perera and Dulani focused on rotating the strike, building an unbroken 72-run partnership off 64 balls.[4] Perera reached her half-century after 58 balls, and Dulani sealed the victory and the series with a boundary off Hayley Matthews.[4]
