Steffen Jacob Brings Satirical Cartoons to Oelsnitz
Cartoonist Steffen Jacob is opening a new solo exhibition titled “Satirekaricartoonposters” on Friday, October 30, at the Heinrich-Hartmann-Haus in Oelsnitz/Erzgebirge. The exhibition presents a broad cross-section of his satirical black-and-white drawings, which target social grievances and human folly with a sharp pen.
Decades of Sharp-Witted Commentary
Born in Karl-Marx-Stadt in 1956, Steffen Jacob trained as an offset printer and later worked as a designer and game developer, according to the exhibition invitation. He has published satirical graphics and caricatures since the 1980s, documenting everyday absurdities both locally and globally. A significant milestone in his career occurred on November 9, 1989—the day of the fall of the Berlin Wall—when he gained admission as a caricaturist in the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR. More recently, he established the “Büro für gehobenen Unfug” (Office for Elevated Mischief) in 2025 to house his cartoons, graphics, and paintings. His work is held in several permanent collections, including the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz, the Satiricum in the Sommerpalais Greiz, Satyrkon Legnica in Poland, and the Museo de la Xilografia de la Plata in Argentina.
