Latvian pop-rock band Sub Scriptum released their single “Rudenī” in collaboration with cellist Mareks Radzēvičs, marking a departure from their usual style by introducing a bright, melancholic cello-led ballad format. The track combines acoustic origins with stark lyricism about seasonal solitude.
Rudzītis and Radzēvičs record a beautiful ballad
The single brings together Sub Scriptum vocalist Kristers Rudzītis and cellist Mareks Radzēvičs, who joined forces to record what the band describes as an unusually beautiful ballad for their repertoire. Radzēvičs noted that upon hearing the first version of the song, he immediately sensed its potential, pointing out that while the cello naturally carries a sad undertone, the arrangement provides a bright sentiment rather than pure sorrow.
The song’s text was written by Emīls Buiķis after a late-night acoustic guitar session with Rudzītis in August. The structural feel of the track remained entirely unchanged from its first demo version to the finished recording.

Lyrical Themes of Solitude and Winter Journeys
Beneath the romantic autumn exterior lies a starker narrative concerning loneliness and isolation. Buiķis explained that the lyrics reflect the heavy feeling of walking home after summer ends, when bars close and there is no money for a taxi.
“Up until spring, there are still 500 kilometers to walk, and you’ve left home in your slippers,” Buiķis stated, describing the song as a solitary journey through the cold months where no companion accompanies the traveler.
