One Window Cleaner Dies, Another Injured in Surabaya Apartment Fall

Surabaya, East Java – A window cleaner died and another was injured after falling from an apartment building in Surabaya on Monday, March 2, 2026. The incident occurred due to strong winds and heavy rain.

Details of the Incident

According to Head of the Surabaya Fire Department, M. Rokhim, the two workers were in a gondola when the incident occurred. One worker was evacuated to a hospital while conscious. The other worker, identified only as MD, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“So one of them has been evacuated, taken to hospital. Thank God, he is still conscious,” Rokhim stated as reported by detikjatim.

“This one is still in the process of descending from the 25th floor, MD’s condition (died),” he added.

Cause of the Fall

Rokhim suspects that strong winds were the primary cause of the incident. Both workers were using safety equipment at the time of the fall, but the force of the wind contributed to the accident.

“This strong wind. The wind was really strong and the rain was just now,” Rokhim explained.
