Surfer Bitten by Shark in Northern California

On Friday morning, a surfer was attacked by a shark in Northern California.

the unidentified surfer was in the water at Salmon Creek, north of San Francisco in Sonoma county, when the attack happened. No word yet on the type of shark involved, but given the location and time of year, it’s pretty safe to say that it was a great white.

According to reports from the Sonoma county sheriff, the victim was transported to the hospital with hand injuries. And per photos, it looks like the shark sunk its teeth into the surfer’s board, too.

the Sheriff reported:

“Earlier today,a surfer at North Salmon Creek was bitten on the hand by a shark while in the water. The Marine Unit located the surfer on shore after they had gotten themselves out of the water. Because the Marine Unit was already on scene, Sonoma County Fire 8880 was able to downgrade its response to Code 2. Medics spoke with the surfer, who declined medical treatment at the scene before ultimately transporting themselves to the hospital.”

Images shared by the Sheriff showed a number of small punctures to the surfer’s board. As for the surfer’s bodily injuries, they sound fairly minor. They were hospitalized, however.
