Sun Valley Man Arrested on Multiple Felony Weapons Charges

SUN VALLEY, Nev.- A Washoe County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) traffic stop in Sun Valley on thursday, January 29, 2026, led to the arrest of a suspect facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.

Deputies initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of E 5th Ave and Lacy Lane at approximately 11:00 a.m. An ensuing on-scene examination resulted in the arrest of rene Garcia-Montez, 34, who was later booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility.

Garcia-Montez is facing the following felony charges: possession of a firearm by a prohibited person,altering or obliterating a firearm serial number,and obtaining or using another person’s personal information for unlawful purposes.

In addition to the felony charges, Garcia-Montez also faces misdemeanor charges including failure to register as a convicted person, possession of drug paraphernalia, and a contempt of court warrant issued by the Carson City Township Justice Court.
