Sweden’s national women’s handball team is on the verge of qualifying for the European Championship, fueled by convincing wins in the qualification rounds and a historic milestone achieved by veteran player Nathalie Hagman. The European Championship finals in December will be hosted across five nations: Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, and Turkey.
Sweden’s Path to the Playoffs
Under the guidance of national team captain Tomas Axnér, Sweden has demonstrated strong performance in the qualifiers. They secured victories against Ukraine (33–25) and Lithuania (41–20). A 29–26 win against Serbia in Kragujevac further solidified their position, practically guaranteeing their place in the playoffs. The return leg against Serbia is scheduled for Saturday in Lund, with remaining matches against Ukraine and Lithuania to be played in April.
Hagman’s Milestone: 1,000 Goals
During the recent match against Serbia, Nathalie Hagman reached a remarkable achievement – scoring her 1,000th goal for the Swedish national team. She netted seven goals in the game, bringing her total to 1,001. Only two players have scored more goals for Sweden: Mia Hermansson-Högdahl (1,153) and Åsa Mogensen (1,108).

She currently plays for Győri ETO KC and has been a member of the Swedish national team since 2009, debuting at the age of 17 – making her the youngest ever debutant in the national team.
